Areas of expertise
The teaching and research team of ESIHMar, part of the Social Determinants and Health Education Research Group (SDHEd) and affiliated with the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (HMRIB), conducts research activities aimed at the generation, transfer, and application of scientific knowledge for the prevention of disease and the improvement of population well-being throughout the life course, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS).
The group's research focuses on the analysis of the social determinants of health, as well as on the design, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based strategies and interventions that promote health equity, contribute to the reduction of inequalities, and support the sustainability of public systems. These actions aimed at facilitate the transition from a treatment-centred model to a preventive one, in which well-being constitutes both a strategic objective and a measurable outcome of the efficient and responsible use of public resources across the health, education, and social sectors.
With a clear focus on value-based care, SDHEd generates relevant evidence to support informed decision-making, improve person-centred health outcomes, and drive the sustainable transformation of personal practice, healthcare education, and public policies, with the aim of achieving significant social, economic, and scientific impact.
