Areas of strength

The teaching and research team at ESIHMar, as members of the Research Group on Social Determinants and Health Education (SDHEd), affiliated with the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, aims to promote higher levels of equity in the access, design, implementation, and transfer of professional care, and to contribute to improving people's well-being. In pursuit of this goal, the group is committed to working with and applying innovative approaches that take into account the voices and contexts of the people involved, whether they are individuals in need of care, healthcare professionals, or students. Through collaborative and multidisciplinary research, the group promotes a scientific stance on care and the design of strategies and tactics that are effective, equitable, and person-centered. In practical terms, the group works around four interrelated areas:

  • Understanding the social determinants of health
  • Roles and competencies of care professionals, especially nurses
  • Professional care
  • Innovation in care learning environments

Knowledge generation in each of these areas seeks to drive policies, strategies, plans, and interventions that enhance the quality of life and well-being of the people we serve.
