Living in Barcelona

|Alt Imatge|

As you already know, two official languages coexist in Catalonia: Spanish and Catalan. We Catalans are bilingual, and in the streets you will hear both, sometimes mixed!

If you want to improve your skills with both languages, we recommend you to take a virtual class before your arrival. Here are some we recommend:

  • Universitat Pompeu Fabra offers virtual classes in both languages with its own professors. The courses are quarterly, cover a whole level within the European Reference Framework for languages, and are worth about 230 euros/quarter.
  • To learn Catalan, we also recommend the courses of the CNL (Consorci per la Normalització Lingüística), that offers virtual and free Catalan courses in its Initial and Basic levels.
  • If you want to practice your skills, there are plenty of tandem and language exchange options that you can try. Search in Meetup app or on a website like this one.
